    Question Arrival questions

    Hey Burners,

I'm a complete virgin in burning events. I've never been to Burning Man or any other similar event before, but I wanted to go to Burning Man for several years now and some months ago I've decided to go there in 2013.
During my searchings on the internet for Burning Man groups from Germany I've ran across this page, the Afrikaburn, and now I have some questions:

    How do I get there?
What's the next city with an airport and how can I get to the festival from there?

Oh an how big is this event? How many people are participating in Afrikaburn?

    Best regards from Germany!

    Hi

Your best bet is to fly to Cape Town. From there hire a car. Tankwa Town is about 300km from Cape Town. There is no public transport to this area - it really is in the middle of the desert.
The numbers will be about 5000 this year. It's big enough. I have never been able to see everything during a particular event - I guess that is also a function of your involvement in an art/theme camp etc.
    Hope you can make it!

Thank you for your fast answer!

Do I have the chance to buy all the camping equipment and canisters of water in Cape Town?
I can't take this stuff with me on the flight and I would have to buy it there, like most people from abroad do it at Burning Man too.

You can buy it here. Cape Union Mart is good for buying camping gear: http://www.capeunionmart.co.za/ and Plastics for Afrika is good for water canisters: http://www.plasticsforafrica.com/

You can try outdoor warehouse (in somerset west, just of the N2 national road) for good quality, cheap camping gear - http://www.outdoorwarehouse.co.za/

Also, you can try makro - www.makro.co.za - for Walmart goods.
