Talking Introducing the Afrikaburn Fire Collective

    Hey peoples,
I have no idea what took me so long getting onto this forum.

My name is Duncan and I'm slightly obsessed with spinning things around, and I usually end up setting them on fire. Last Afrikaburn I gathered people around to form a collective of fire spinners and object manipulators at the Camp Fire theme camp. My intention is to continue doing this each year to essentially make an Afrikaburn Fire Conclave similar to (or at least inspired by) the one at Burning Man.

Maybe you good folks can help me with something though, as I'm a fairly indecisive guy.
I need to come up with a final name for this theme camp of ours.
I'm reluctant to call it the Afrikaburn Fire Conclave, because 1) This is unlikely to be a carbon copy of the Fire Conclave, and 2) because the word "conclave" implies that it is a secret, and I don't want there to be any secrecy involved here. It's all about sharing the fire, and the flow.
However, if it is called the Afrikaburn Fire Conclave, then everyone who knows the BM Fire Conclave will immediately understand what it is supposed to be, and I like the idea of that.
My current other options for a name are the Afrikaburn Fire Collective, or Flow Collective (cos it's not always gonna be on fire). I anticipate that lots of people are going to end up calling us the FireTribe anyways, no matter what we call ourselves, but that can't be our name, because it's already taken.

    Any other suggestions are welcome.

Anyways. It's nice to be here. I'm gonna go spin something now.

Welcome Helix! Great to have you here and really exciting to learn about your plans to bring more fire-spinning to AB! I have been to Burning Man at Black Rock City several times and love the extent of fire dancing there - it would be great to see more at AB too. What about calling yourselves the FireSpin Collective?

Hey Mike, thanks for the reply

Yeh FireSpin could work, although I reckon Fire would be descriptive enough. I had this discussion earlier about preference over the words "Spin" and "Dance" and "Jam" and "Flow".
What I'm really wondering is whether to call it a "Conclave" or a "Collective".
I've actually now decided I'm gonna create a poll on facebook.

    I prefer Collective to Conclave.

    Hi Helix -

    My suggestion: Campfire.

Lends a family vibe to it which is appropriate, I think.

(just a suggestion, but I see you've posted your poll on the AfrikaBurn - Burning Man in South Africa group. You may find you get more interest if you post the poll to http://www.facebook.com/afrikaburn as that enjoys greater traffic)

    Cheers,

    Travis

So far, after 1 week of the vote being out, with a grand total of 8 votes, Afrikaburn Fire Collective wins with 4 votes.
The poll theoretically reached over 5000 people on facebook. I have now posted on the other Afrikaburn page just in case.

We were called Campfire at the last Afrikaburn. That could stay as the name of the theme camp, but as a group of people I reckon we need a different name.
