Build it, and they will come!

Theme camps are interactive camps designed by groups of people with the intention of welcoming, engaging and entertaining other participants. Think of them as little villages within the larger village of AfrikaBurn. The aim is to create a collective, not just for domestic arrangements (eating, shade etc) but to make a project that will gift something to the community and invite them to participate.

Themes can be anything: you can offer food, drink, a sound experience or a service such as massage, comfort, a talk, a demonstration, lost mind insurance policies, a water fountain, a bakery, a dance class. What are you good at, that others would enjoy? Maybe you have something to give, or share?

Theme camps typically have a shade structure (usually decorated accordingly) which serves as a public space in which people are invited to come and join in whatever activity you and your fellow theme camp creators have decided to make your theme/service.

Choose when you want to have activity and when not – you don’ have to do it all day or night, it’s up to you.

REGISTER YOUR CAMP

Although it is not a prerequisite to register your theme camp, those who register get located on the main circular road, the Binnekring, and placement on the map.

If you are planning a large and unregistered camp, you will probably want to arrive earlier in the week to secure a space. Theme camps are located throughout the Village but may not be placed in the open art area within the Binnekring.
